Gyovania Marante’s Bio:
In my journey of evolving as a teacher, I realize that I must also be a continuous learner. “The important thing is not to stop questioning.” ~Albert Einstein. In striving to accomplish this, I am currently attending Nova Southeastern University seeking a Master's degree in Educational Leadership. I will complete my degree in June 2009. In April of 2001, I earned a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Florida International University in Miami, FL. Although my degree is in Elementary Education, after several years at the elementary level, I realized that I wanted to explore working with older children. In August of 2007, Jose Bueno, at Country Club Middle, decided to give me that opportunity. This is my second year at Country Club teaching 6th grade Intensive Math using an interactive online program called V-Math by Voyager Learning. During this time I had the privilege of being part of a hard working staff where I am proud of the accomplishments that we have made as a school achieving an “A” after receiving a “D” during the first year of operation. Prior to my middle school introduction, I experienced several different classroom settings at Bob Graham Education Center. At Bob Graham, I taught Math and Science in a 3rd grade team class for 1 year, and Math and Science in a 5th grade Inclusion class for 2 years. I also taught all core subjects in a self contained 5th grade Inclusion class during my first year at Bob Graham. Although my background is not in Exceptional Education, Dr. Dawn Hurns presented me with this opportunity while working under her direction at Palm Springs North Elementary where she had interviewed and hired me in August of 2001. At Palms Springs North, my first full year teaching experience was in a 1st grade class. I was then offered the opportunity to move to the 5th grade level and I accepted. All these different settings, I believe have made me a well-rounded educator. At all these schools I have been very involved in promoting school spirit. I have been the dance and/or cheer coach and have assisted in organizing school activities such as FCAT pep-rallies, Faculty Follies, and Field Day. Last year I received a certificate of honor from Miami Dade County Public Schools based on a letter written by a student about my teaching and motivating abilities. This year I had the privilege of being awarded the Teacher of the Year at Country Club Middle. |
